TH210 and TH215 Telehandlers Caterpillar

Hydraulic System Oil - Change

Usage:

TH210 CEC

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is performed on the hydraulic system.

Turn the engine start switch key clockwise to the ON position. Operate each hydraulic function several times in both directions in order to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Operate the hydraulic functions several times in order to warm the hydraulic oil.

  1. Park the machine on level ground. Fully retract the boom and fully lower the boom. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position and ensure that the parking brake is engaged. Shut off the engine.

  1. Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position. Operate each hydraulic function several times in each direction in order to relieve pressure from the hydraulic system.

Note: The implement control valve is operated by hydraulic pressure from an accumulator.

  1. Open the engine enclosure and locate filler cap (1). The filler cap is installed on upper hydraulic tank (3) .

  1. Clean the area around the filler cap. Remove filler cap (1) in order to relieve pressure from the hydraulic tanks.

  1. Clean the area around drain plug (5) in lower hydraulic tank (4). Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the hydraulic tank and drain the oil into a suitable container.

  1. Flush the hydraulic tanks with clean hydraulic oil. Take extreme care to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic tanks.

  1. Clean drain plug (5). Install the drain plug back into hydraulic tank (4) .

  1. Fill the hydraulic tanks with new oil. Fill the hydraulic tanks through filler (2). Clean filler cap (1) in clean nonflammable solvent. Install the filler cap. Clean up any oil that has spilled. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for additional information.

  1. Start the engine. Check for clearance for the boom. The boom will need clearance for full extension. You need enough clearance to fully raise the boom and you need enough clearance to lower the boom. Raise and lower the boom several times. Extend and retract the boom several times.

  1. Lower the boom to the travel position. With the boom in the travel position, drive the machine forward slowly. Steer the machine from the left to the right.

  1. Park the machine and check the oil level. If necessary, add oil.
