Start By:

  1. Remove the final drive from the front axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive (Drive and Steering Axle)(Front) - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: The axle is removed for photographic purposes.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove three retaining rings (4) .

  1. Use Tooling (B) to remove three gears (5) and three outer bearings (6) .

  1. Break the cage (8) on each of the three inner bearings. Remove the cage (8) and the rollers (9) for each of the three inner bearings.

  1. Use Tooling (B) to remove the three inner bearing races (7) .
