Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Water and Sediment - Drain".

Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking. When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component. Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed. |

NOTICE |
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all tubes and on all wires for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

- Open tool box (1) and remove two bolts (2). Remove tool box (1) .

- Remove five clips (3), two screws (4), plate (5), two washers (6) and floormat (7) .

- Remove three screws (8) and cover plate (9) .

- Loosen hose clamp (10) and disconnect hose (11). Remove two cable straps (12) and disconnect the harness for fuel sender (13). Loosen nut (14) in order to disconnect the fuel supply hose. Loosen nut (15) in order to disconnect the fuel return hose.

- Support either side of the fuel tank with a suitable floor jack and cribbing. The weight of the fuel tank should be no heavier than 48 kg (106 lb).

- Remove eight bolts (16), the washers and two brackets (17) .

- With the aid of a second person, carefully lower the right side of the fuel tank in order to allow access to clip (19). Remove bolt (18), the washer and hose clip (19). Remove one cable strap (20) .

- Carefully lower the right side of the fuel tank until the right side of the fuel tank is clear of the mounting brackets. Move the fuel tank to the right until the left side flange is clear. Lower the left side of the fuel tank to the ground. Fully lower the right side of the fuel tank to the ground.

- Remove the fuel tank from the left side of the machine.
