Timing Gear Cover

Usage:

Remove Timing Gear Cover

Start By:

a. remove oil pan

b. remove air compressor

c. remove water pump

d. remove crankshaft damper and pulley


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


1. Remove cover (1) and the O-ring seal from the riming gear plate.


NOTICE

Use care when the trunnion is removed to prevent damage to the crankshaft front seal


2. Remove three bolts (2), trunnion (3) and the O-ring seal.

3. Remove the bolts that hold the timing gear cover in place. Carefully loosen the cover from the dowels and remove cover (4).

4. Clean the old gasket from the contact surface of the timing gear cover and the timing gear plate.

Install Timing Gear Cover

1. Install a new gasket (1) on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face on the cylinder block.

2. Install the timing gear cover (2). The bolts in locations (3) and (4) are tightened to a torque of 23 ± 4 N·m (17 ± 3 lb ft).

3. Be sure the O-ring seal (6) is on position on trunnion. Install trunnion (5) and the bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 ± 15 N·m (100 ± 11 lb ft).

4. Install the O-ring seal and cover (7).

End By:

a. install crankshaft damper and pulley

b. install water pump

c. install air compressor

d. install oil pan
