Start By:
- Remove the service and parking brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service and Parking Brake (Rear) - Remove".
- Remove 13 friction discs, and 13 outer plates from brake housing (2) . Remove damper assembly (1) .

- Position Tool (A) , as shown. Attach Tool (A) to a suitable hoist. Remove brake hub (3) from brake housing (2) . The weight of the brake hub (3) is 33 kg (72.8 lb).

- Remove 16 bolts (4) and the washers that fasten the backup plate to brake housing (2) .
- Remove ring seal (5) and the seal ring from brake hub (3) .

- Position Tool (B) on backup plate (7) , as shown. Attach Tool (B) to a suitable hoist. Remove four nuts (6) evenly. Remove four nuts (6) gradually. Remove the backup plate from the brake housing. The weight of the backup plate is 29 kg (64 lb). Use Tool (E) to remove the taperlock studs from the brake housing.

- Remove O-ring seal (8) from brake housing (2) .

- Use Tool (C) (not shown) to compress spring (9) . Remove the pin that holds spring guide (10) in the piston.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force. Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force. |
- Slowly release the tension of spring (9) . Remove Tool (C) .
- Remove spring guide (10) and spring (9) from the inside of the housing support.
- Repeat Step 7 through Step 9 for the remaining three spring guides (10) .
- Remove four springs (9) and spring guides (10) from the housing support.
- Use two 3/8 inch - 16 NC forcing screws (12) to separate piston (11) from cylinder (13) .

- Remove two plastic ring seals (14) and the two rubber ring seals from piston (11) .

- Remove four bolts (15) and the washers that fasten housing support (16) to cylinder (13) .

- Install Tooling (D) to housing support (16) . Fasten a suitable lifting device to Tooling (D) . Attach the lifting device to a hoist. Remove housing support (16) and the housing from cylinder (13) . The weight of housing support (16) and the housing is 52 kg (115 lb). Remove the three O-ring seals from housing support (16) .

- Position housing support (16) , as shown. Remove 12 bolts (17) and the washers that fasten housing (18) to housing support (16) . Install Tooling (D) (not shown) to housing (18) . Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (D) . Attach the lifting device to a hoist. Remove housing (18) from housing support (16) . The weight of housing (18) is 30 kg (66.1 lb).

- Remove three O-ring seals (19) from the housing support.

- Put an alignment mark on piston (20) and housing (18) for assembly purposes. Put supports under piston (20) . Use a soft hammer to push housing (18) out of piston (20) .
