793B Off-Highway Truck Air System and Brakes Caterpillar

Rear Wheel

Usage:

793B 1HL
Note: The rear wheel is part of the final drive, brake, and wheel. The following items are nonserviceable as a group.

Illustration 1g00945511

(1) Torque for the 47 nuts ... 880 ± 80 N·m (650 ± 59 lb ft)

(2) Torque for the 21 nuts ... 1200 ± 100 N·m (885 ± 74 lb ft)

(3) Rubber toric seals

Note: Rubber toric seals (3) and all of the surfaces that come in contact with rubber toric seals must be clean at the time of assembly. Allow rubber toric seals (3) and all of the surfaces that come in contact with rubber toric seals to dry before the time of assembly. Immediately before assembly, put a thin layer of oil on any surfaces that contact the rubber toric seals. Seal rings must be assembled squarely with the bore. Rubber toric seals should not be twisted. Do not allow the rubber toric seals to bulge.

(4) Torque for the eight bolts ... 135 ± 15 N·m (100 ± 11 lb ft)

Note: Apply blue Loctite 243 to the threads after the bearing has been adjusted.

(5) Torque for the three bolts ... 100 ± 10 N·m (74 ± 7 lb ft)

(6) Torque for the eight bolts ... 255 ± 15 N·m (188 ± 11 lb ft)

Note: Apply blue Loctite 243 to the threads after the bearing has been adjusted.

(7) Shim pack

Total thickness ... 3.90 mm (0.1535 inch)

Note: Refer to the Power Train Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drives, Rear Wheel Bearings, and Duo-Cone Seals" or refer to the Power Train Disassembly and Assembly, "Rear Wheel, Bearing, and Duo-Cone Seal" in order to determine the amount of shims to use.

(8) Torque for the four bolts ... 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft)

(9) Shim pack

Total thickness ... 5.96 mm (0.2346 inch)

(10) Lubricate the seal with a small amount of the lubricant that is being sealed.

(11) Apply 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound to the bearing journal on the spindle. Completely, cover the area under the outer bearing.

(12) Install the 18 bolts and tighten to a torque of 250 N·m (184 lb ft).

    Illustration 2g01182975

  1. Loosen nine bolts (12A) and then tighten to a torque of 500 ± 50 N·m (367 ± 37 lb ft). Apply an additional turn of 60 ± 5 degrees.

  2. Loosen nine remaining bolts (12B) and then tighten to a torque of 500 ± 50 N·m (367 ± 37 lb ft). Apply an additional turn of 60 ± 5 degrees.

Note: DO NOT reuse torque turned bolts.

Note: Perform the procedure in the Power Train Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drives, Rear Wheel Bearings, and Duo-Cone Seals" or the procedure in the Power Train Disassembly and Assembly, "Rear Wheel, Bearing, and Duo-Cone Seal".

(13) Torque for the 12 bolts ... 100 ± 10 N·m (74 ± 7 lb ft)

Note: Before assembly, apply blue Loctite 243 to the threads.

(14) Shim pack

Total thickness ... 4.96 mm (0.1953 inch)

(15) Torque the 47 bolts in a circular pattern to 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Repeat this step again in order to ensure that all bolts are evenly torqued. Apply an additional turn of 120 ± 5 degrees to each bolt.

DO NOT reuse torque turned bolts.

Note: Lubricate the bottom face of the washers and the threads of the bolts with 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound before assembly.
