Engine Status Lamp

Usage:

65E 6GS

Illustration 1g00390465

Engine Status Lamp - This machine is equipped with a diagnostic lamp for the engine.

While the engine start switch key is in the ON position and the engine is not running, the lamp illuminates for five seconds. Then, the lamp momentarily turns off. Again, the lamp illuminates for five seconds. This tests the lamp for proper operation. If there are any active codes, the codes are displayed at this time.

When you start the engine, the lamp illuminates for one second to five seconds. Then, the lamp momentarily turns off. Then, the lamp illuminates for five seconds. If the lamp illuminates for more than five seconds, an active code has been detected.

When an active code is detected, the lamp illuminates constantly. If the condition that generated the code disappears, the lamp turns off after five seconds. The code is logged by the engine control module (ECM).

If an active fault is detected, determine the cause of the fault by retrieving the diagnostic code.

Retrieving a Diagnostic Code

While the engine start switch key is in the ON position, push down the toggle switch. The toggle switch is located to right of the fuse panel at the front of the cab. Hold the switch. The lamp on the dash will flash. When the lamp begins to flash, release the toggle switch.

The lamp will flash a two digit diagnostic code. The sequence of the flashes represents a diagnostic message from the engine control module. The first sequence of flashes represents the first digit of the diagnostic code. After a two second pause, there is another sequence of flashes. The second sequence of flashes represents the second digit of the diagnostic code. After a pause, additional diagnostic codes are displayed.

An active diagnostic code indicates that there is a problem that should be investigated. See Table 1 for descriptions of the possible diagnostic codes. If there is an active code but the machine operates normally, you may continue to operate the machine. However, you should investigate the problem. Correct the problem as soon as possible.

Table 1
Diagnostic Codes
Flash Code     Description
13     There is a fault in the fuel temperature sensor.
17     The battery voltage is out-of-range.
21     The 5 volt supply from the engine control module is out-of-range.
25     There is a fault in the turbocharger outlet pressure sensor.
26     There is a fault in the atmospheric pressure sensor.
27     There is a fault in the coolant temperature sensor.
28     Adjust the position sensor for the governor.
32     There is a fault in the position sensor for the governor.
34     There is a fault in the engine speed signal.
35     The engine is in an overspeed condition.
37     There is a fault in the fuel pressure sensor.
38     There is a fault in the temperature sensor for the air intake system.
42     Calibration is required for the oil pressure sensor, for the atmospheric pressure sensor, or for the turbocharger outlet pressure sensor. Also, timing calibration could be required.
53     There is a fault in the engine control module.
55     There are no detectable faults.
56     Check the programmable parameters. Also, the incorrect engine software may be installed.
63     There is low fuel pressure or there is a restriction in the fuel filter.
72     There is a fault in cylinder 1 or in cylinder 2.
73     There is a fault in cylinder 3 or in cylinder 4.
74     There is a fault in cylinder 5 or in cylinder 6.

When you repair the cause of a diagnostic code, the diagnostic code disappears. Monitor intermittent faults. Intermittent faults may lead to machine damage.
