Sampling Valve For The Steering Oil

The sampling valve for the steering oil is located on the steering solenoid and relief valve.

Take the oil samples as close as possible to the standard intervals. In order to receive the full value from S·O·S oil analysis, you must establish a consistent trend of data. In order to establish a pertinent history of data, record samples on a consistent basis and at intervals that are evenly spaced.

More Frequent S·O·S Sampling Improves The Life Cycle Cost

Traditionally, the suggested S·O·S sampling intervals have been at 250 hours for engines, and at every 500 hours for all other compartments. Under the following conditions, a sampling interval of 250 hours is recommended for all compartments.

Application

Studies have revealed that some high load applications require sampling intervals to be shorter than 500 hours. If high temperatures are present, sampling intervals may need to be shorter than 500 hours. A sampling interval of 250 hours provides more data between each oil change. This increases the chance for detecting a potential failure.

Determining The Best Oil Change Interval

Sampling the compartments at every 250 hours provides information about the condition of the oil. This information can be used to determine the performance of a particular oil. Also, data from frequent sampling enables close monitoring of component wear rates and the maximum amount of lubrication. For detailed information on extending oil change intervals, please consult your Caterpillar dealer.

Optimizing Component Life

More frequent sampling also provides data that can be used to determine trends. Trends provide wear patterns that can be used to monitor component life.
