  1. While the boom (1) is raised, engage the hooks (2) .

  1. Move the boom down against the hooks.

  1. Loosen the bolts (7) and place the wedges (5) in order to achieve a clearance of 1 mm (0.0394 inches) to 2 mm (0.0787 inches) between the wedges (5) and the swing frame (6) .

  1. Loosen the bolts (8) and adjust the stop (9) in order to provide a 2 mm (0.0787 inches) to 3 mm (0.118 inches) clearance between the notch in the hook (2) and the pointer on the stop (9) .

  1. Tighten the two bolts (7) and the one bolt (6) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Raise the boom (1) and check the operation of the boom lock. The lock should release.

  1. While the boom is raised against the swing frame (6), hold the backhoe control lever in the RAISE position in order to compress the wedges. This will also eliminate any gaps.

  1. Torque the two bolts (7) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Adjust the cable (4) so that a maximum of 9 threads are engaged in the rod end (3) .

  1. Recheck the operation of the boom lock. If the boom lock does not release, repeat step 1 through step 9.

  1. When the adjustment is complete, tighten all of the nuts on the cable assembly to a torque of 20 ± 5 N·m (15 ± 4 lb ft).
