Battery or Battery Cable - Replace

Usage:

Replace Battery Cables

  1. Turn the engine start switch key to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the following items from cover (3) : four capscrews (socket head) (1) and washers and two nuts (2) (not shown). Remove cover (3) .

    Note: The implement valve bank has been removed for photographic purposes only.

  1. Release two latches (4). Remove lid (5) .

  1. Disconnect the following items from the battery: two negative battery terminals (6), two positive battery terminals (7) and one electrical connection (8)

  1. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the electric starting motor.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the electric starting motor.

  1. Remove the clamps that hold the battery cables to the frame. Remove the battery cables.

  1. Install the new battery cables.

  1. Connect the negative battery cable to the negative terminal of the electric starting motor. Tighten the nuts on the starting motor terminal to a torque of 30.5 ± 3.5 N·m (22.5 ± 2.6 lb ft).

  1. Connect the positive battery cable to the positive terminal of the electric starting motor. Tighten the nuts on the starting motor terminal to a torque of 30.5 ± 3.5 N·m (22.5 ± 2.6 lb ft).

  1. Connect the following items to the battery: two negative battery terminals (6), two positive battery terminals (7) and one electrical connection (8)

    Note: Tighten the nuts on the battery terminals to a torque of 7.2 ± 1.6 N·m (63.73 ± 14.16 lb in).

  1. Reinstall the existing clamps which hold down the battery cables.

  1. Install lid (5). Engage two latches (4) .

  1. Install cover (3). Install the following items into cover (3) : four capscrews (socket head) (1) and washers and two nuts (2) (not shown).

Replace Batteries

  1. Turn the engine start switch key to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the following items from cover (3) : four capscrews (socket head) (1) and washers and two nuts (2) (not shown). Remove cover (3) .

  1. Release two latches (4). Remove lid (5) .

  1. Disconnect the following items from the battery: two negative battery terminals (6), two positive battery terminals (7) and one electrical connection (8)

  1. Remove the following items from the battery: three bolts and washers (9), metal strip (10) and three spacers (11) .

  1. Attach a lifting strap to one battery (12). See Illustration 12. Remove one battery from battery compartment (13). Repeat the procedure for the second battery. The weight of one battery is 25 kg (55 lb).

  1. Use a lifting strap and a hoist in order to install battery (12) into battery compartment (13). Repeat the procedure for the second battery. The weight of one battery is 25 kg (55 lb).

  1. Install the following items: three bolts and washers (9), metal strip (10) and three spacers (11) .

    Note: Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 10 ± 3 N·m (89 ± 27 lb in).

  1. Connect the following items to the battery: two negative battery terminals (6), two positive battery terminals (7) and one electrical connection (8)
