冷却液通过一个弯头流入水泵 (9)。 弯头连接到散热器或热交换器上。 冷却液液流在水泵出口处进行分流。 部分冷却液液流通过管 (8) 流至后冷器 (2)。 其余冷却液流过发动机机油冷却器 (7)。

输送到后冷器的冷却液流经后冷器芯。 冷却液通过一个弯头流至缸盖 (6) 中的水道内。 此水道靠近缸体后端 V 字形部分的中央。

流经发动机机油冷却器的冷却液在右后气缸处流入缸体的水套。 然后,较冷的冷却液和较热的冷却液进行混合。 冷却液通过分配歧管流至缸体的两侧。 分配歧管与所有气缸的水套相连接。 主分配歧管位置就在主轴承油道之上。

冷却液向上流经水套。 冷却液自下而上地流经缸套。 靠近缸套顶部的位置温度最高。 靠近缸套的顶部的水套较小。 这一限流区使得冷却液流得更快以便使缸套获得更好的冷却。

冷却液从缸套顶部流入缸盖 (5) 中。 缸盖输送冷却液,使其流过最热的零件的周围。 然后,冷却液流至缸盖的顶部。 冷却液通过每个缸盖上的弯头流出,然后流入气缸每排上的水歧管 (1)。 冷却液在流过水歧管后流至温度调节器壳体 (3)。

水温调节器壳体分成上流区和下流区两个部分。 壳体使用了四个温度调节器。 四个温度调节器的感温球处于壳体下部内。 在调节器开启前,冷态冷却液通过旁通管 (10) 流回到水泵 (9) 的进口。 随着温度的升高,调节器将会开始开启,而旁通管的冷却液液流将会受阻。 一些冷却液将会通过出口流至散热器或热交换器。

总系统容量取决于下列部件中的冷却液量:缸体, 散热器或热交换器 和 冷却液管路。
