Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor (Engines With Bolt On Drive for Fuel Injection Pump)

Usage:

Remove Fuel Injection Pump Housing and Governor

1. Remove plug (1) from timing pin hole in the fuel injection pump housing and install timing pin.

TIMING PIN HOLE PLUG (Typical Example)
1. Plug.

2. Rotate the crankshaft CLOCKWISE (as viewed from front of engine) until the timing pin drops into the timing slot in the fuel injection pump camshaft.

3. Disconnect wire (3) from fuel shutoff solenoid. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump.

4. Disconnect the governor control linkage (4) and remove the bracket (2).

FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING
2. Bracket. 3. Wire. 4. Governor control linkage.

5. Remove the tachometer drive adapter housing (5).

TACHOMETER DRIVE
5. Tachometer drive adapter housing.

6. Remove bolts (6) and the tachometer drive assembly (7).

7. Remove the plug from timing hole (9) in the front cover and insert bolt (8). The cover retaining bolt from hole (10) may be used.

8. Rotate crankshaft CLOCKWISE (as viewed from front of engine) until bolt (8) threads into the timing gear and is centered in timing hole (9). With timing pin in slot in fuel pump camshaft and the bolt (8) through the front cover and threaded into the timing gear, the fuel injection pump camshaft is timed to the engine.

TACHOMETER DRIVE ASSEMBLY
6. Bolts (three). 7. Tachometer drive assembly.

INSTALLING BOLT
8. 1D4539 Bolt [5/16 in. - 18 NC, 2.5 in. (63.5 mm) long]. 9. Timing hole. 10. Hole.

9. Remove the fuel injection pump housing retaining bolts (11).

RETAINING BOLTS (Typical Example)
11. Retaining bolts (three).

10. Attach a hoist and remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit, the weight is approx. 55 lbs. (23 kg).

NOTE: When removing the fuel injection pump and governor, be sure the pump drive gear does not get out of engagement with the timing gear.

REMOVING HOUSING (Typical Example)

Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing and Governor

1. Attach a hoist and install the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit. Install the fuel injection pump housing retaining bolts.

NOTE: Guide the pump drive gear on the fuel injection pump camshaft making sure the gear does not get out of engagement with the timing gear.

2. Install the tachometer drive assembly (7), tighten the tachometer drive assembly finger tight.

3. Install bolts (6), tighten the bolts to 32 ± 5 lb. ft. (4.4 ± 0.7 mkg). Tighten the tachometer drive assembly to 50 ± 10 lb. ft. (6.9 ± 1.4 mkg).

NOTE: If the holes in the drive gear and the holes in the fuel injection pump camshaft are not in alignment for bolts (6) the front cover must be removed and the gear rotated to get the alignment of the holes.

4. To check timing remove the timing pin and the bolt. Rotate the crankshaft two revolutions CLOCKWISE (as viewed from front of engine) and install the timing pin and bolt back in place. If the timing pin or bolt can not be installed, the fuel injection pump camshaft must be retimed.

5. Remove the bolt (8) from the timing gear and install in hole (10). Install the plug into timing hole (9).

6. Remove the timing pin from the timing slot in the fuel injection pump camshaft and install the plug in the timing hole.

7. Install the tachometer drive adapter housing. Connect the wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid.

8. Connect the fuel lines to the fuel transfer pump. Install the governor control bracket and linkage.
