NOTE: | This Containment Program can be administered either before or after a failure occurs. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer and service rep. Obtain the service reps Goodwill Approver Code before completing the repair. EAME dealers should use their standard Industry Group specific goodwill approval codes. The Goodwill Approver Code must be included when submitting the claim. |

If administered before failure, use "56" as Warranty Claim Description and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. PROBLEM
The existing blade cushion accumulator and compression brake switches should be wired to be on and removed from the cab switch panel of certain 16M Motor Graders. This will allow the blade cushion accumulators and the compression brake to be active at all times. |

ACTION REQUIRED
1. Follow the rework instructions attached to remove and wire the blade cushion accumulator switch and the compression brake switch. 2. Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician perform the following: - Under the Service Calibrations menu, select the "Transmission Fill Calibration" Perform the Transmission Calibration three times - Under the Configuration menu, select the Trans/Chassis ECM and ensure the oil type selected in the "Lube Parameters" correctly matches what is currently in the machine and is correct for the ambient temperatures the machine will be operating in. - Under the Configuration menu, select the Trans/Chassis ECM and ensure the "Transmission Initial Forward Gear" and "Transmission Initial Reverse Gear" are set to 2. - Under the Configuration menu, select the Implement ECM and ensure the oil type selected in the Steering Configuration menu under "Hydraulic Oil Viscosity Rating" correctly matches what is currently in the machine and is correct for the ambient temperatures the machine will be operating in. |

Use the following procedure to remove the blade cushion accumulator switch and run with the blade accumulators in the ON state at all times. To remove the blade cushion accumulator switch: 1. Disconnect the P-C95 harness connector from the 249-5487 Rocker Switch and remove the rocker switch from the mount. 2. At the P-C95 harness connector, remove the wire 169-PK from the connector position 2. Also, remove the wire 570-BU from the connector position 3. 3. Use a wire splice or alternative method to connect wires 169-PK and 570-BU together. 4. Connect the P-C95 harness connector to the rear of the 228-6089 Plug. 5. Install a 228-6089 Plug in the mounting hole for the 249-5487 Rocker Switch. Refer to image below for before and after wiring diagrams for the blade cushion switch. |

Use the following procedure to remove the compression brake switch and run with the compression brake in the ON state at all times. Note: The configuration parameter must be changed using Cat ET software version 2011B or later. Select the Transmission/Chassis ECM. In the configuration screen, select ?Compression Brake Type Configuration?. Select ?Momentary?. Cycle the key start switch to reset the ECM. To remove the compression brake switch on machine serial number B9H1-up and R9H1-829: 1. Disconnect the P-C146 harness connector from the 278-8040 Rocker Switch and remove the rocker switch from the mount. 2. At the P-C146 harness connector, remove the wire E716-GY from the connector position 3. Also, remove the wire A202-BK from the connector position 2. 3. Use a wire splice or alternative method to connect wires E716-GY and A202-BK together. 4. Connect the P-C146 harness connector to the rear of the 228-6089 Plug. 5. Install a 228-6089 Plug in the mounting hole for the 278-8040 Rocker Switch. To remove the compression brake switch on machine serial number R9H830-up: 1. Disconnect the P-C146 harness connector from the 368-4532 Momentary Rocker Switch connector and remove the 368-4532 Momentary Rocker Switch from the mount. 2. Connect the P-C146 harness connector to the rear of the 228-6089 Plug. 3. Install a 228-6089 Plug in the mounting hole for the 368-4532 Momentary Rocker Switch. Refer to image below for before and after wiring diagrams for the compression brake switch. |
