Usage:
NOTE: The slack adjuster is located between the frame rails in front of the differential housing.
1. Disconnect supply hose (2) and both the left and right side brake supply lines (1) from the slack adjuster (4).
2. Remove two bolts (3) that fasten the slack adjuster to the manifold, and remove the slack adjuster.
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the slack adjuster.
3. To install, put slack adjuster (4) in position, and install two bolts (3) that hold it. Connect lines (1) and hose (2) to the slack adjuster.
4. Bleed the air from the brake system. See Testing And Adjusting, Form SENR5645, for the proper procedure to bleed the brake system.
Disassemble & Assemble Slack Adjuster
Start By:
a. remove slack adjuster
There is spring pressure behind housings (1) and (7). |
1. Remove housing (1) from base (6).
2. Remove spring (3).
3. Remove piston (5) from housing (1).
4. Follow Steps 1 through 3 for the other side (7) of the slack adjuster.
NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the slack adjuster.
5. Make a replacement of O-ring seals (2) and (4) if worn and damaged.
6. Install piston (5) in housing (1).
7. Put spring (3) in position on piston (5).
8. Install the housing on base (6).
9. Repeat steps 5 through 8 for the remaining side (7) of the slack adjuster.
