Usage:
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01, SENR5664 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine. |
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (C C12 F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) and refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Refrigerant R-12 or R-134A through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01 and SENR5664, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system. |
1. Purge the air conditioning charging system.
2. Disconnect two wires (2) from the air conditioning compressor.
3. Loosen nut (4) and bolt (3). Remove belt (1) from the pulley.
View From Under Machine.
4. Remove bolt (8) and plate (6) to disconnect refrigerant lines (5) and (7) from the air conditioning compressor. Put protective covers in the compressor and refrigerant lines.
5. Remove two large bolts (9) and one small bolt (10). Remove the alowing steps are for installation of the air conditioning compressor.installation of the air conditioning compressor.
6. Put the air conditioning compressor in position on the engine, and install bolts (9) and (10).
7. Be sure the O-ring seals are in place in lines (5) and (7), and install them in their original position. Install plate (6) and bolt (8).
8. Install belt (1) over the pulley on the compressor, and install bolt (2).
9. Use tool (A) to get the correct belt tension. Adjust the belt tension (new belt) to 534 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb).
For a used belt the tension is 400 ± 44 N (90 ± 10 lb).
NOTE: A used belt is one which has more than 30 minutes of operation at rated engine speed.
10. After the correct belt tension is obtained, tighten all bolts and nuts.
11. After installation of the air conditioning compressor, perform the following steps (see Air Conditioning And Heating, Form No. SENR3334):
a. Check the compressor oil.
b. Evacuating the system.
c. Charge the system.
d. Do a performance check of the air conditioning system.
