Updating central dealer CTS database
With each CTS release there is a database update utility that has to be executed against the central dealer database if one exists. This ensures the central database is structurally consistent with the current CTS release as well as applies any database corrections that may have occurred since the previous release. See attachment 2 for details on completing. Depending on the size of the dealer?s central CTS database this process can take several hours and should be performed during ?off hours? when PSSRs are not attempting to update to it.

Key features of this update to CTS 5.5
- Database
o Part Master table- approximately 1,000 part numbers had their Business Economics Commodity Code added.
o Undercarriage Code Table- access restrictions preventing editing or deleting of Nexus undercarriage codes were implemented. Also, when adding dealer defined undercarriage codes, Nexus codes are available for selection.
o Parts for the D6K model were added.
- Reports
o Inspection History report- Track sag is displayed in the unit of measure configured in Preferences. Previously it was always in inches.
o Inspection Text reports- the unit of measure defined in Preferences is used to display inspection measurements in all text reports.
o Four English version Track Assurance certificates were updated, specifically Undercarriage Assurance, Undercarriage Assurance Gold, SystemOne? Leakage & Breakage, and SystemOne Wear Life.
- Installation
o ?Silent? install capabilities have been added so IT personnel can remotely install CTS. Reference the Readme file contained on the installation CD for detailed instructions.
- UCS Module
o When CTS part prices are updated using a CTSExportedParts.zip file the user is prompted to update UCS related prices the next time UCS is invoked from CTS. This functionality was available previously for manually entered or updated part numbers.
o To increase the usefulness of the Undercarriage Selector in creating cost per hour comparisons several models were added. The base models that were added are D3G, D3C, D4G, D4C, D8N, D8R, and D8T.

Applying the database update utility to the central dealer CTS database
Description: This procedure identifies the steps required to apply the database update utility to a centralized CTS dealer database. This is necessary to ensure the central database is structurally consistent with the current CTS release as well as ensures any database corrections that may have occurred since the previous release are applied.
Pre-requisites: The utility should be run at a time when no dealer personnel are accessing the central CTS database. The size of the central dealer database is a factor in the amount of time required to complete. The larger the database the longer this process requires. For rough estimates: a 30-80 megabyte database took 6-12 minutes to run the update against.
Step 1: Backup the central dealer database.
1. Copy the current central dealer CTS database and store in safe location. Depending on dealership network drive access privileges, assistance may be needed from dealer IT staff to complete the back up of the database.
Step 2: Run database update utility against the central dealer CTS database.
1. The database update utility is in the Programs subdirectory under the default CTS install directory (i.e. C:\Program Files\Caterpillar\Custom Track Service v5.5).
2. Double click on the program named CTS55DataUpdate (complete filename if file extensions shown -> CTS55DataUpdate.exe). The window below is shown:
3. In the Database field either type the path including the database file name to the central dealer CTS database. Another option, click the browse button at the end of the field and use the ?Open? window to find and select the central dealer CTS database.
4. After selecting the current dealer CTS database, click the Update button. You will then be prompted whether you want to update prices. Click ?Yes? button if you want the most current suggested consumer list prices to be updated in CTS.
While the update is running the ?Overall Process? and ?Current Process? meters will be updated to reflect the status of the update.
5. When the database update process is complete the following window is displayed:
Click the ?No? button to end the update process.
Additional information
If a CTS user attempts to access the central dealer CTS database while the update process is running the user will be shown the following window:
