NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0974" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

August 31, 1997Problem
Some Allison drive group flex plates used on 3116 Engines were manufactured without the timing pin hole needed to establish top dead center on cylinder number 1. The timing pin hole is 8.2 mm in diameter and is located 164 mm from the center of the plate.
NOTE: For timing an engine without a timing pin hole, see the Technical Information Bulletin dated September 2, 1994.

- 3 - 29527690 Allison Flex Plate (Refer to the "Action Required" for additional information)
- 1 - 29527691 Bolt Plate Assembly
Action Required
On the affected vehicles, only when the transmission or engine is removed , check for presence of the timing pin hole.If the hole is present, no action is required.If there is no timing pin hole, follow the instructions below.
1. Order the new 29527690 Flex Plates and a 29527691 Bolt Plate Assembly from your Allison dealer.
2. Remove the starter ring gear from the old flex plate and install it on the new one.
3. Install the new flex plates to the crankshaft using the original mounting bolts.Coat the threads of the bolts with 9S3263 Thread Lock or equivalent sealant to avoid oil leaking through the bolt holes.
Tighten the mounting bolts to 120 ± 20 N·m (90 ± 15 lb. ft.) of torque.(See the engine service manual for complete removal and installation instructions)
4. Destroy the old flex plate to avoid installation in another engine.
