Field Service Update Kit Now Available For Suspension Seat{7312,7307,7324}

Usage:

All Series G Motor Graders Equipped With 6W4923 Suspension Group

The suspension seat installed on machines in the field can be updated to current production by adding a second shock absorber. The 8Y5160 Kit is now available which includes the second shock absorber and the necessary hardware to install it. Following are the directions to update a typical seat.

1. First, remove the four nuts that secure the seat to the suspension. Then remove the two anchor bolts from the seat that attach to the seat belts. Remove the seat group from the suspension.

2. Remove the four bolts that attach the suspension group to the seat support. Remove the suspension group from the cab.

3. Release the height control latch and put the suspension group in its highest position.

4. With a split fork type tool, remove six plastic fastener buttons (1) that attach vinyl skirt (2) to the rear of the unit.

5. Remove three plastic fasteners from the side with the shock absorber and roll the vinyl skirt out of the way.

6. Remove nut (or retainer) (3) on the end of rod (4) that goes through shock absorber (5) rod end. Pull rod (4) out off the upper member until the shock absorber is free of the rod.

7. Place the seat suspension group, so that the shock absorber is in a vertical position with the rod end up. Grasp the rod end and slowly move it in and out of the shock absorber. If air is in the shock absorber, the rod will move rapidly and then meet resistance. Moving the rod in and out six or seven times should expel the air. Once the air is expelled, the rod will move with resistance during the full travel in and out. If the air cannot be expelled from the shock absorber, then replace the shock absorber with a new 8Y3664 Shock Absorber.

8. Inspect the condition of the sliding members located inside the suspension group and repair or replace any worn components.

9. Install rod (4) through the rod eye of shock absorber (5) and then through the hole in the upper housing of the suspension group, and attach nut or retainer (3).

10. Locate and drill 6.3 mm (.25") diameter pilot holes in the upper and lower housings of the suspension group. Then drill out the pilot holes to 16.0 mm (.63") diameter holes. See Illustrations 3, 4 and 5 for hole locations.

11. Install thread spacer (6) into the 16.0 mm (.63") diameter holes and weld in place as shown in Illustration 6. Once the weld has cooled, clean the weld area and paint.

12. Install vinyl skirt (2) using 9C4457 Button Fasteners (1). In the area where the new threaded spacers are installed, use a hammer to tap the vinyl skirt around the sharp edges of the spacers. This will help cut the material so it can be removed from around the spacers.

13. Install the new 8Y3664 Shock Absorber (7), with the rod end up. Use bearing (8), spacer (6), bolt (10) and washer (11).

14. Install the suspension group in the cab with the four bolts and tighten the bolts.

15. Place the seat on the suspension group but do not attach. Install the bolts attached to the seat belts. This is made easier if the seat can be moved about while installing and tightening the bolts. Now, place the seat into position on the suspension group and install and tighten the four nuts.

NOTE: A firmer ride is sometimes more desirable. Firmness can be increased by turning the adjustment wheel clockwise. Sometimes it may be necessary to adjust it to the maximum limit.
