Transmission

Additional recommendations for long-term transmission storage preservation, are now available for transmissions listed above.

Follow the below recommendations for TH48, TH55, and CX48 Transmissions.

1. Add 740 mL (25 oz) of VCI oil ( 4C-6792 Oil) to the transmission sump. Refer to Special Instruction , SEHS9031 , "Storage Procedure For Caterpillar Products". Before operating transmission, drain the oil completely and refill the oil by referring to Operation and Maintenance Manual of the transmission.

2. Apply a film of multipurpose grease (MPGM) or other rust preventative to all exposed surfaces of the transmission output flange.

3. Remove shipping cover and apply multipurpose grease (MPGM) or other rust preventative to exposed mounting flange surfaces

4. Seal the transmission fill cap/breather with tape or heat shrink to prevent the VCI vapor from escaping during storage.

5. Ensure that all electrical connectors that are not installed are sealed with appropriate plugs.

6. Inspect the condition of all loose ship components and ensure that the parts are well protected by VCI bags.

For CX31, CX35, CX38, TH31, TH35 Transmissions, follow the below recommendations.

1. Add 118 mL (4 oz) of VCI oil ( 4C-6792 Oil) to the transmission sump. Refer to Special Instruction , SEHS9031 , "Storage Procedure For Caterpillar Products". Before operating transmission, drain the oil completely and refill the oil by referring to Operation and Maintenance Manual of the transmission.

2. Apply a film of multipurpose grease (MPGM) or other rust preventative to all exposed surfaces of the transmission output flange.

3. Seal the transmission fill cap/breather with tape or heat shrink to prevent the VCI vapor from escaping during storage. Breather may be removed and plugged if desired.

4. Ensure that all electrical connectors that are not installed are sealed with appropriate plugs.

5. Spray the torque converter with VCI Oil and cover belt housing with plastic.

   Note: Bagging the whole transmission in a VCI bag may be a simple way to achieve a seal.
