C18 Fire Pump Engine Caterpillar

Engine Operation

Usage:

C18 NBB
Correct operation and maintenance are key factors in obtaining the maximum life and economy of the engine. If the directions in the Operation and Maintenance Manual are followed, costs can be minimized and engine service life can be maximized.

Check the engine for fluid leaks and for air leaks immediately after the engine is started.

Gauge readings should be observed and the data should be recorded frequently while the engine is operating. Comparing the data over time will help to determine normal readings for each gauge. Comparing data over time will also help detect abnormal operating developments. Significant changes in the readings should be investigated.

The limit for engine overspeed is 116% of the set speed. If conditions allow the engine to reach the limit for engine overspeed, the engine automatically shuts down. The "WARNING" lamp will illuminate. The engine may not be restarted before the "OVERSPEED" reset button is depressed. Depress the "OVERSPEED" reset button for at least 1 second in order for the reset to occur.
