Engine Oil Pump - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the fuel transfer pump.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove bolts (1) and (2). Loosen bolts (5), remove bolts (4), and remove tube assembly (3). Remove the O-ring seals.

  3. Remove bolts (6) and (7). Remove elbow (8). Remove the O-ring seals.

  4. Remove tube (11). Remove bolts (10) and elbow (9). Remove the O-ring seals.

  5. Remove bolts (15) and pry flange (14) away from engine oil pump (12). Remove the O-ring seals.

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil pump (12). The weight of engine oil pump (12) is approximately 45 kg (99 lb). Remove bolts (13) and slide engine oil pump (12) rear-ward to disengage the pump drive. Remove engine oil pump (12). Remove the O-ring seals.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine oil pump (12) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal on engine oil pump (12).

    2. Apply clean unused engine oil to the O-ring seals.
