MID 039 - Machine Control Module
CID 3456 - Autonomous Steering Enable Solenoid #1 Return
FMI 05 - Current Below Normal
Illustration 1 | g03257116 |
This diagnostic code is active when the Machine Control Module (MCM) has determined the Autonomous Steering Enable Solenoid #1 (Primary EH Steer Pilot SOL [P1]) return current is below normal.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
- Turn the keyswitch and battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the solenoid from the machine harness.
- Measure the resistance between contact 1 and contact 2 of the solenoid.
Expected Result:
The resistance measurement is approximately 30 Ohms at
Results:
- OK - The resistance measurement is approximately 30 Ohms. Proceed to Test Step 2.
- NOT OK - The resistance measurement is more than 5000 Ohms.
Repair: The coil of the solenoid has failed. Repeat this Test Step to verify that the solenoid has failed. Replace the solenoid.
STOP
Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN
- The keyswitch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
- Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the Input/Output Module (I/O Module).
- Install a jumper wire between contact 1 and contact 2 of the EH-C12 connector of the harness.
- At the machine harness connector J1 for the I/O Module, measure the resistance from contact J1-54 (wire J755-BU(Blue)) to contact J1-67 (wire A827-OR(Orange)).
Expected Result:
The resistance is less than 5 ohms.
Results:
- OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
- NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness. A resistance measurement that is much greater than 5 ohms but less than 5000 ohms could indicate that one of the connection points in the circuit is not open but is not a good connection.
Repair: The open or possible bad connection is in wire J755-BU(Blue) of the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
- The keyswitch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
- Inspect the contacts of the harness connectors that are used in the solenoid circuit. Ensure that the contacts are secure. Clean all of the contacts in the harness connectors.
- Reconnect all harness connectors.
- Turn the disconnect switch and the keyswitch to the ON position.
- Operate the machine.
- Check the status of the CID 3456 FMI 05.
Expected Result:
The CID 3456 FMI 05 is active.
Results:
- YES - The CID 3456 FMI 05 is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected. The I/O Module may have failed.
Repair: I/O Module failure is unlikely. Replace the solenoid. After solenoid replacement, perform this procedure again. If the diagnostic code is still active, replace the I/O Module. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, KENR8394, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
STOP
- NO - The CID 3456 FMI 05 is not active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time.
Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.
