Usage:
3176 (2YG, 7LG) Truck Engines
Reference: The article titled "Alternator Mounting Modifications " in this issue.
Description of Change: On engines where Caterpillar supplies the alternator mounting group, a new one piece alternator support bracket is used to replace two former brackets. In some applications, the former bracket between the water pump and alternator could fail, or the front housing could crack at the alternator bracket mounting pad. The flange on the new bracket is thicker to make it stronger. It is important to use the new longer mounting bolts and washers to insure adequate thread engagement in the aluminum water pump housing.
Adaptable To: The illustration and chart identity the new components in the 7E0557 Alternator Mounting Group. The former brackets are canceled and replaced by the new components.

If the front housing has failed on a 3176 Truck Engine in a Ford chassis, see the Reference Article.
