The MD3 display functions on software application files installed to internal flash memory. Flash memory is a non-volatile computer storage chip that can be electronically erased and reprogrammed. Flash memory offers fast read access times, mechanical shock resistance, and high durability. Operational program application files are uploaded into these chips. The process is also known as flashing or burning.

The installed MD3 display application files may require updating, restoration, or resetting for various reasons. This section describes the uploading of application files to the MD3 flash memory.

In order to accomplish uploading, a PC with compatible Windows operating system will be needed. A current licensed copy of IQANrun software must be installed. These tools are used in order to upload the upgrade or restoration application files to the MD3.

NOTICE

When uploading flash files to the MD3 display, the electrical power and PC-to-MD3 communications must not be interrupted. Incomplete or corrupted files may result.

Obtain a copy of the Water Delivery System (WDS) SERVICE TOOL PASSWORD FORM. The form is available in electronic format from the following website: https://oemsolutions.cat.com/cda/layout?m=615955&x=7&f=793346
The information for passwords that must be captured on this form is exceptionally long, and the accuracy of the information is important for successful results. Capturing the information electronically on the form is recommended.
The Water Deliver System (WDS) from Caterpillar utilizes a separate Operating System that requires separate security measures and service tool. The form will be used to document and request the security measures needed for the WDS Operating System.

Note: When this software is installed, a license number is required in order to activate the software. The number can only be obtained from a purchased copy. A license will still need to be obtained for a downloaded copy of the software.
1. Once the service tool is installed go to the File menu and select Tools>Password Manager. The Password Manager screen is presented.
  Record your Public Key here: _________________________
  Note: If viewing electronically, the Public Key may be captured by right clicking your mouse over the Public Key and selecting Copy. Then paste the Public Key onto the line above. This procedure will help avoid errors.
2. Once recorded, the Public Key must be emailed to Caterpillar OEM Solutions, using the Password Form. Email to the following contacts:
  - German_Paul_R@Cat.com
  - Neuhalfen_Jerry_B@cat.com
  - Freeman_David_C@cat.com
  You will receive an email back containing the password to activate the application software to flash into the machine.

3. Go to the File menu, select Tools>Password Manager and select Add Safe Password. The Add Safe Password screen will be presented.

  Note: If viewing electronically, the Safe Password may be captured by right clicking your mouse over the password and selecting Copy. Then paste the password into the Safe Password box. This procedure will help avoid errors.

Once the required Safe Password is installed, the application software can be activated. The application software is available for download at the following site: https://oemsolutions.cat.com/cda/layout?m=615955&x=7&f=793346

Note: The application number may not necessarily be what is shown in the example.
1. Once the Safe Password information is entered, you can select Update from the side menu to program the WDS system. A prompt will appear asking you to locate the application file that has been downloaded to your PC.
2. Once the file is selected, a confirmation will appear. Select Yes.

3. Follow the given prompts and select OK.

4. The programming of the system will then begin.
  Note: During this process power must not be interrupted to the WDS system!

5. This screen indicates a successful programming of the WDS system has taken place.
