Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and Install
Start By:
- Remove the heat exchanger.
- Remove the aftercooler and the mounting bracket.
- Remove the low-pressure fuel system relief valve.

Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Follow Step 1.a through Step 1.c to remove the blanking plate (3).
- Remove bolts (1). There are four bolts in total.
- Remove blanking plate (2).
- Remove gasket (not shown).

Illustration 3 g03366019 - If necessary, loosen bolts in Position (X). Remove bolts (5) and remove oil cooler assembly (6) and gasket (7) (not shown). There are 11 bolts in total.
Note: The bolts are different lengths. Note the position of the different bolts.

- Separate oil cooler assembly (6) and remove gasket (8).

- Install oil cooler assembly (6) in the reverse order of removal.
- Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of
22 N·m (16 lb ft) in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 5. - Check the level of the engine lubricating oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
