Fuel Injection Pump Gear - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the fuel injection pump.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Use tool (B) will be needed to remove bolt.

  1. Use a suitable tool to prevent fuel injection pump gear (3) from rotating.

    Note: Do not use timing pin for the fuel injection to prevent the fuel injection pump gear from rotating.

  2. Remove nut (1) and washer (2). Discard washer (2).

  3. Use Tooling (A) to remove gear (3) from the shaft of fuel injection pump (7).

  4. Remove key (6) from the shaft of fuel injection pump (7).

  5. Remove bolts (8) and the washers.

  6. Remove adapter plate (4) from fuel injection pump (7).

  7. Remove O-ring seal (5).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel injection pump gear (3) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 22 N·m (195 lb in).

    2. Tighten nut (1) to a torque of 64 N·m (47 lb ft).
