Engine Oil Filter Base - Remove and Install

- Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filters (1).
- Disconnect the harness assembly to sampling valve (3). Remove sampling valve (3) and the adapters.
- Remove bolts (2).

- Remove clip (7).
- Remove bolts (4). Remove engine oil filter base assembly (6) from the oil manifold. Discard the gasket. Replace with a new gasket for installation.

The integral seal may have remained with the oil manifold, or came off with the removal of the engine oil filter base assembly. Discard the integral seal and replace with a new integral seal for installation.
- Remove elbow (8) and discard the O-ring seal. Replace with a new O-ring seal for installation.
- Remove nuts (10) and remove engine oil filter base (9). Remove studs (11).

Illustration 5 g03046642 - Remove hollow stud (12), purge screw (13), and shutoff valve (16).
- Remove bolts (15). Remove cover (14) and discard the gasket. Replace with a new gasket for installation.
- Repeat Step 8 through Step 10 for the remaining engine oil filter base.

- Install engine oil filter base (9) in the reverse order of removal.
- Tighten purge screw (13) to a torque of
12.7 ± 2 N·m (112 ± 18 lb in) .Show/hide tableIllustration 6 g03046776 - Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of hollow stud (12) along the length of Area (X). The length of Area (X) is
10.2 ± 1.5 mm (0.40 ± 0.06 inch) . - Tighten hollow stud (12) to a torque of
80 ± 14 N·m (59 ± 10 lb ft) . - Tighten studs (11) to a torque of
35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft) . - Lubricate the bore for elbow (8) and the O-ring seal with the fluid that is being sealed.
- Tighten sampling valve to a torque of
10 ± 2 N·m (89 ± 18 lb in) . - Apply clean engine oil to the seal for engine oil filters (1). Tighten engine oil filters (1) one full turn after the seal contacts the engine oil filter base.
- Tighten purge screw (13) to a torque of
