Description of Change: Certain G3520C Generator Sets are configured to provide optimal performance in island mode. New ECM software is available for these engines. The software improves the serviceability and the diagnostics of the software.
The enhancements to the ECM software are listed below.
- Improvements were made in the status of the display for Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) for the "turbocharger compressor outlet pressure" and the "fuel quality used" parameters.
- The action for diagnostic code 1719-3 disables the starting of the engine and the running of the engine for a disconnected sensor.
- Warnings were added in order to help avoid the flashing of mismatched software into an ECM.
- The ability to recover from software flashed into the wrong ECM.
- Improved operation stability
Note: When the software for the Auxiliary Sensing Module (ASM) is updated for the first time, there may be a warning from the service tool. The warning will state that a mismatch of components is detected. The service tool will ask if flashing the software into the ECM is acceptable. Select "Yes" during this first time. The component identifier for the ECM is being changed with this new software. When the ECM has been flashed, the correct component identifier for the ECM on the ASM should be "I/O Module". After the first time, this warning only occurs if an attempt is made to flash the ECM with older software or incorrect software.
Note: Caterpillar recommends that Caterpillar Electronic Technician 2008A or a newer version is used.
Adaptable To: The software release supports the new 256-7635 Engine Electronic Control Gp and the engine electronic control group is compatible with the 209-5500 Engine Electronic Control Gp for use on G3500 products. The new G3500 software part numbers are listed in Table 1.
