Installation of the 297-4068 Isolator As {1152, 1154} Caterpillar

Installation of the 297-4068 Isolator As {1152, 1154}

Usage:

3512C E3Y
Engine:
3512C (S/N: TTG1-UP; SLM1-UP; E3Y1-UP)
3516C (S/N: JTS1-UP; TKY1-UP)

  1. Ensure that the foundation that will support the installation is level within 10 mm (0.3937 inch). Intermediate plates between each isolator and the foundation can provide a level foundation. Refer to the engineering print for the installation that is specific to the engine application.

  1. Remove nut (2) and washer (3). Place adjusting nut (4) in the neutral position by turning the nut until the top of the nut is above the top casting (7) by 20 mm (0.7874 inch).

  1. Attach each mount to the mounting holes on the rail. Install washer (3) and nut (2) onto the internal limiter (5). Hand tighten nut (2). Take care to bring the internal limiter (5) in the upper position by turning the internal limiter counterclockwise with a spanner on the top hexagon. Ensure that the identification plate is visible.

  1. Turn the four lower nuts (10) clockwise about two turns. Turning the nuts allows the top casting (7) to move when the mounts are loaded. After installation of all mounts, gently lower the equipment until the mounts take the load.

  1. Check that all the bolts (6) are free to rotate manually. If bolts (6) are not free to rotate manually, refer to Steps 5.a and 5.b.

    1. Turn the internal limiter (5) clockwise by one and half turns.

    1. Turn four bolts (6) until the four bolts are free to rotate manually.

  1. Remove bolts (6), washers (8) and nuts (10) from the slotted holes in the top casting (7) .

    (A) Dimension

    (B) Dimension

  1. The maximum allowable variation in the loaded height between isolators is 2 mm (0.0787 inch). The least amount of variation in the loaded height is the objective. This height can be measured at dimension (A) and (B). If the variation in height exceeds 2 mm (0.0787 inch), adjusting nut (4) can be turned. Do not adjust nut (4) beyond ± 0.5 mm (± 0.0197 inch) from the neutral position. The neutral position for adjusting nut (4) is 20 mm (0.7874 inch) from the top casting (7). Refer to Step 2.

Note: Adjusting nut (4) is intended for the adjustment of the alignment for thermal effects and for movement over time.

  1. The deviation of dimensions (A) and (B) of a single mount must not exceed the ± 0.5 mm (± 0.0197 inch). During alignment, level the installation by screwing bolts (6) into base casting (12) .

  1. The individual thickness of a chock under each mount can now be measured. Install a chock between the base casting (12) or an intermediate plate and the foundation. The chock or the plate must at least cover the total area of base casting (12). Remove the level bolts (6).

  1. Insert the foundation bolts through the four holes in the base casting and the foundation. Use a quality bolt that is grade 8.8 or higher.

    Torque ... 205 N·m (151 lb ft)

  1. The clearance for the internal limiter in each mount must now be set.

    1. Turn the internal limiter (5) downward until the internal limiter contacts the foundation.

    1. From this position, turn the internal limiter (5) upward over two turns.

  1. Tighten nut (2) and at the same time hold internal limiter (5) with a spanner at the top hexagon.

    Torque ... 385 N·m (284 lb ft)
