D9R Track-Type Tractor Caterpillar

Battery Electrolyte Level - Check

Usage:

D9R HWH
Note: Low Maintenance batteries are installed at the factory.

Table 1
Maintenance Intervals For Batteries
Battery  Interval
Low Maintenance  250 Hours
Maintenance Free  Maintenance Free

Tighten the battery retainers on all machines at every 1000 hour interval.

Clean the top of the batteries with a clean cloth at every 1000 hour interval or more often, if necessary. Keep the terminals clean and coat the terminals with petroleum jelly.

Each battery cell should not require more than 30 cc (1 oz) of water weekly. This usage of water is typical with the proper charging rate and with a moderate climate.

When you are operating the machine in extreme temperatures, check the water in the battery cells weekly.

  1. Open the battery access covers. The covers are located on the left side fender (front). A battery cover is also on the right side fender (if equipped). The battery on the right side fender is for cold starts. The battery on the right side is optional.

  2. Clean the battery surface with a clean cloth. Keep the terminals clean and keep the terminals coated with petroleum jelly. Install the post cover after you coat the terminal post with petroleum jelly.

  3. Inspect the electrolyte level in each battery cell. (A maintenance free battery does not require inspection.) Maintain the electrolyte level to the bottom of the filler openings. Use distilled water. If distilled water is not available, use clean drinking water.

  4. Close the battery access covers.
