The brake system and the hydraulic fan system have the following main components:
- Monitoring system
- Control manifold
- Hydraulic Tank
- Piston pump (hydraulic fan)
- Pump Control Valve
- Piston motor (hydraulic fan)
- Oil cooler (brake and hydraulic fan)

The hydraulic fan system senses the temperature of the engine and the hydraulic oil. The piston pump that supplies power for the fan motor is on the rear of the transfer case. The fan hydraulic system is controlled by the engine ECM and the machine ECM .
The Caterpillar Monitoring System consists of an action alarm, action light, and a monitoring panel. The monitoring panel contains individual alert indicators for each machine system and one LCD display screen. The Caterpillar Monitoring System provides four warning categories. The first warning category requires only operator awareness. The second warning category needs operator response. The third warning is the 2S category. The 2S category will inform the operator to change the operation techniques because the brakes are hot. The fourth warning category requires immediate shutdown of the machine systems.

The pump for the hydraulic fan and brake system is a variable displacement axial piston pump. When the engine is operating, the pump will always produce flow. The flow is created to satisfy the following demands:
- The demand of the brake system
- The demand of the hydraulic fan system
When the demands are met and the pressure compensator setting is reached, the pump will continue to produce flow on a limited basis.

The pump control valve is mounted on the piston pump (brake and hydraulic fan). The pump control valve uses load sensing to control the system pressure. The piston pump (hydraulic fan and brake) will only produce enough oil flow to satisfy the demand of the hydraulic fan and brake system.

The control manifold directs the oil from the brake and the hydraulic fan pump to the brake circuit and to the fan circuit.

The piston motor (hydraulic fan) is located in the cooling group of the wheel tractor scraper. The fan is attached to the piston motor. The piston motor converts hydraulic energy into mechanical energy to rotate the fan.

The oil cooler (brake and hydraulic fan) is located in front of the radiator group. Oil flows from the piston motor (hydraulic fan) through the cooler. The oil flows through the return filter and into the hydraulic tank.
