To prevent personal injury when checks are made while the machine is in operation, make sure only approved personnel are on the machine. Keep other personnel off the machine and in view of the operator. Make sure checks are done in an open area. |
The operation checks can be used to find leakage in the system. The operation checks can be used to find a bad valve or a bad pump. The speed of the rods during cylinder movement can be used as an indication of the cylinder condition and of the pump condition.
Make sure that the machine is resting on a smooth, level surface. The machine should be moved away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
Start the engine.
Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature.
Repeatedly move the grapple arch to the IN position and to the OUT position.
Repeatedly raise the grapple boom to the UP position and lower the grapple boom to the DOWN position.
Repeatedly raise the decking blade to the UP position and lower the decking blade to the DOWN position.
- Watch the cylinders during the extension and during the retraction. Cylinder movement must be smooth and regular.
- Listen for noise from the hydraulic pump.
- Listen for the sound of the line relief valves. The line relief valves must only open during the full extension of the cylinders or during the full retraction of the cylinders.
- If possible, place each hydraulic control valve in the HOLD position while the implement is off the ground. Watch for excessive cylinder rod drift.
Drift of the implement cylinders can be caused by the following conditions:
- Leakage of oil past the piston seals.
- Too much clearance between the main spool and the valve body.
