Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the front tires and rims.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
- Drain the oil from the fixed axle. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change.".
- Remove cover (1) .

- Disconnect tube assembly (2) .

- Disconnect clips (3) and disconnect harness assembly (4) .
- Disconnect fitting (5) .

- Remove bolts (6) and discard bolts (6). Reposition drive shaft (7) .
- Attach a suitable lifting device to fixed axle (9). The weight of fixed axle (9) is approximately 1900 kg (4200 lb).

- Remove nuts (8) and the washers that hold fixed axle (9) to the front loader frame.
- Remove fixed axle (9) from the machine.
Installation Procedure
- Install fixed axle (9) in the reverse order of removal.
- Tighten nuts (8) to a torque of 2000 ± 250 N·m (1480 ± 185 lb ft).
- Tighten new bolts (6) in an X pattern to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (111± 11b ft).
- Purge the air from the braking system. For the correct procedure, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Brake System Air - Purge".
