Introduction

This section discusses the "Setup Menu" dialogs. Use these dialogs in order to access the items that are used for setup of the Grade Slope System.

Note: The contents of the "Setup Menu" dialog are configurable at the job site. The number of items in the "Setup Menu" may vary depending on the settings of your system and the machine settings.

Table 1 lists the default menu items.

Setup Menu - 3D Configuration Menu Items 
Menu Item  Description 
"Select Design"  Allows the operator to select the design file that will be used on the job site. 
"Vertical Offset"  Allows the operator to specify the vertical offset of the reference surface. 
"Horizontal Offset"  Allows the operator to specify the horizontal offset of the reference surface. 
"GPS Accuracy"  Allows the operator to choose one of the following accuracy modes for the GPS guidance:  Fine
Medium
Course 
"Blade Wear"  Information on the wear of the cutting edge is entered into the Grade Slope System so that the Grade Slope GPS can adjust for the wear of the cutting edge. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Blade Wear - Set" for addition information. 
"Guidance Method"  Allows the operator to change the method of guidance. The following list includes some of the methods:  3D, 1 Point Center
3D, 1 Point Focus
3D, 2 Point Tips 
"Increment Switch Adjustment"  Allows operator to adjust the amount by which the vertical offset adjustment will increase or decrease the vertical offset with each button press. 
"Lightbar Scales"  Allows the operator to specify the distance off-grade at which two LED indicators will be lit. 
"Display and Lightbar Brightness"  Allows the operator to specify the brightness of the display and the lightbars. 
"Main Screen View"  The main screen is available as a default to the operator. You can set the plan view to rotate so that the machine is always heading up the display, or the plan view is always drawn with north facing up on the display. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Main Screen View- Set" for additional information. 
"Mapping / Recording"  Mapping/Recording is available by default to the operator if mapping is turned on for main screen views. The main purpose of map recording is to display, on the plan view, position, and attribute information. Terrain logging files ".st" are also recorded when using certain map recording types. Terrain logging files are used in the Grade Slope software. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Map Recording - Set" for additional information. 
Mapping / Recording Settings  Mapping/recording settings is available to the manager by default. Mapping/recording settings allows mapping on the screen or in a file for the office. Also allows minimum height mapping. 
Record Point  Point recording is a mapping feature that allows the operator to record the 3D location of a point identified by the focus position. 
Valve Speed  Allows the operator to make the response of the system faster or slower. 
"Avoidance Zone"  The "Avoidance Zone" dialog allows you to configure the distance from an avoidance zone when you need to be warned. This varies for different applications. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Avoidance Zone - Set". 
"Text Items"  Text Items allows the operator to customize the text items on the display in order to suit your requirements. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Text Items - Set" 
"Beeper"  The beeper can be configured in order to provide an audible signal when various events occur. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Beeper - Set" for additional information. 
"Save Settings"  Allows the operator to save the machine settings and the display settings to system memory. 
"Restore Settings"  Use the "Restore Settings" dialog in order to restore previously saved display settings or machine settings. 
"GPS Receiver Configuration"  Allows the operator to load configuration files for the GPS receiver. 
"Select Radio Band"  Select radio band is available by default to the operator. The "Select Radio Band" dialog allows the user to select the frequency band of "SNRxxx" multi-band radios. 
"Diagnostics"  The software for the Cat Grade Control System displays diagnostic information about the devices the software detects and also the GPS receiver. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Diagnostics - View" for additional information. 

To access the "Setup Menu" dialog complete the following steps:

  1. Press the "Menu" key.

    A screen that is similar to Illustration 1 will appear.

Note: Changes that are made to the "Setup Menu" will take effect when you exit the "Setup Menu" dialog.

Working with the Setup Menu

Press the arrow keys in order to scroll through the available options. Press the "OK" key in order to select the appropriate item.

Within any of the "Setup Menu – Configuration" options, the following steps apply:

  1. Press the "OK" key in order to save any changes to the setup.

  2. Press the escape key in order to close the dialog without changing any setup options. A warning appears.

  3. Press the "OK" key in order to confirm that you want to cancel your changes.

  4. Press the escape key in order to return to the dialog.

When all of your changes are made to the items in the "Setup Menu – Configuration" dialog, press the escape key in order to exit. The changes take effect immediately.

The remaining sections of this manual discuss the options that may be available in the "Setup Menu – Configuration" dialogs.

Receiver

The receiver is configured with the coordinates of the site when a design is loaded onto the display. If the design does not contain a configuration file, consult your supervisor.

The configuration file can be separate from the design file. Use the "GPS Receiver Configuration" dialog in the "Setup Menu - Configuration" menu in order to send the configuration file to the receiver.

Machine Radio

The "Select Radio Band" dialog allows you to change the frequency band for the data radio.

To open the "Select Radio Band" dialog, complete the following steps:

  1. Enter the "Configuration" menu from the "Setup" menu.

  2. Press the arrow keys until "Select Radio Band" is highlighted. Press the "OK" key.

    The utility automatically attempts to connect to the radio.

  3. Use the soft keys in order to select the desired band.

Beeper Configuration

Note: The contents of the "Setup Menu" are configurable at the job site. The number of items that are in the "Setup Menu" may vary depending on the "Operator Configuration" settings of your system and the machine settings. Refer to your supervisor if a specific option is not available.

The Cat Grade Control System includes a beeper. The beeper can be configured in order to provide an audible signal when any of the events that are listed in Table 2 occur.

Event  Description 
Above Grade  Audible signal when the bowl is more than one times the vertical tolerance and less than four times the vertical tolerance above grade. 
Avoidance Zone (the machine is within the alert)  Audible signal when the machine is within the alert distance of an avoidance zone or if the "No Avoid" message is displayed. The beeper also sounds in a continuous pattern when the machine is within the avoidance zone.
The beeper tones for the Avoidance zone cannot be disabled. 
Below Grade  Audible signal when the bowl is more than one times the vertical tolerance and less than four times the vertical tolerance below grade. 
GPS Accuracy  Audible signal when the GPS accuracy mode changes. 
Key/Switch Beeps  Sounds when a key is pressed or a switch is pressed. 
On Grade  Audible signal when the bowl is within the vertical tolerance of grade. 
Alert Messages  Audible signal when a warning message appears and when a warning message automatically disappears. 

In order to access the "Beeper" dialog, complete the following steps:

  1. From the "Setup Menu – Configuration" dialog, press the arrow keys until "Beeper" is highlighted.

  2. Press the "OK" key.

    The "Beeper" dialog appears. Refer to Illustration 5.

    Note: The "F3" button in Illustration 5 may be pressed to cycle through the three selectable volume levels for the beeper.

    Events that are disabled are identified by a cross in the box. Events that are enabled are identified by a check mark. Events that cannot be disabled are identified by a grayed out check mark. Subevents that cannot be disabled independent of the master event are also identified by a grayed out check mark.

  3. Press the arrow keys in order to select different events.

  4. Press the Enable/Disable soft key (1) in order to enable an event or disable an event.

    The different events emit different beeper patterns. To hear the pattern for a particular event, press the "Test" soft key when the event is selected.

  5. Do one of the following.

    • Press the "OK" key in order to confirm the setting. The setup of the beeper is saved. The "Beeper" dialog is closed and the "Setup Menu – Configuration" dialog appears. The changes take effect immediately.

    • Press the escape key and then press the "OK" key in order to return to the "Setup Menu –Configuration" dialog without saving the changes.

  6. Press the escape key in order to exit the "Setup Menu – Configuration" dialog.
