Hydraulically Driven Components
The control pressure from the fan control solenoid valve pushes the piston (4). The piston (4) pushes the facing plates (8) against the steel clutch plates (7). The facing plates (8) are splined to the fan mounting hub (16) .
Components that are Driven by the Pulley
The clutch is driven by the fan drive belts through a pulley. The pulley is bolted to the pulley adapter (6). The pulley adapter (6) and bearing retainers form the pulley cavity. The pulley cavity is sealed at the shaft and bracket assembly (26) and the fan mounting hub (16) by rotating lip seal (11) and rotating lip seal (25). The fan mounting hub (16) is supported by ball bearing (10) and ball bearing (24). The splined section of the pulley adapter (6) drives the externally tanged steel clutch plates (7) .
Stationary Components
The shaft and bracket assembly (26) is bolted to the engine. The shaft and bracket assembly (26) supports the components of the fan clutch. Pitot tubes (22) are fastened to the shaft. The pitot tubes (22) scavenge the oil from the pulley adapter and the pitot tubes return the oil to the engine sump.
