Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
If the filter light in the CMS panel comes on before 500 hours, the filters should be changed.
The transmission oil filter is located behind the access cover on the right side of the machine.
- Remove access plate (1) and remove filter housing drain plug (2). The filter housing drain plug is located under the fender on the right side of the machine.
- Drain the oil into a suitable container.
- Install filter housing drain plug (2) .
- Replace access plate (1) .

- Remove the filter element housing cover.

- Remove the filter element and properly dispose of the filter element.
- Clean the filter element housing with a clean cloth.
- Inspect the seals. If the seals are damaged, replace the seals.
- Install the new filter element and torque the locknut to 30.0 ± 5.4 N·m (22 ± 4 lb ft).
- Install the filter element housing cover and replace the access cover (not shown).
- Fill the transmission system with oil. See illustration 3.

- Start the engine.
- Maintain the oil level to the "FULL" mark on the transmission dipstick (4). If necessary, add oil through transmission filler tube (3) .

- Stop the engine.
