Alternator and Fan Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace

Usage:

D8R II 6YZ

Inspect

  1. Open the access door on the right side of the machine.

    Note: Even if only one belt is worn or damaged, replace the belts in sets.

  1. Inspect the condition of the fan and of the alternator belt. The belts should deflect 14 to 20 mm (.56 to .81 inch) under 110 N (25 lb) of force. Use a 144-0235 Belt Tension Gauge in order to measure the tension.

Adjust/Replace

  1. Loosen bolts (1) .

  1. Turn the adjusting nuts (2) until the correct belt tension is reached. To achieve the correct belt adjustment, move the alternator inward or move the alternator outward, as required.

  1. Tighten bolts (1) .

  1. Close the access door.

Note: Use the same procedure in order to replace the belts.

Note: If new belts are installed, check the belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of engine operation.
