Auger Hydraulic System Oil Filter - Replace

Usage:

631E 1AB

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.

Three filters are associated with the hydraulic system for the auger.

The filter (1) for the charge pump is located behind the transmission filter.

The case drain filter (2) for the piston pump is located on the right side of the transmission case.

The filter (3) for the motor case drain is located above the steering arms of the machine.

A warning light is on the EMS panel which indicates a plugged filter. You should replace all three of these filters at the same time.

  1. Park the machine on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

  2. Stop the engine. Lower the bowl.

  3. Clean the area around the filters.

  4. Remove the oil filters with a strap type wrench. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Oil Filter - Inspect". Discard the used oil filter properly.

  5. Clean the filter housing bases. Make sure that all of the old filter gaskets are removed.

  6. Apply a thin coat of hydraulic oil to the gaskets of the new filters.

  7. Install the new filters by hand. When the gasket contacts the filter base, turn the filter by 270 degrees more. This will tighten the filter sufficiently.

  8. Every new oil filter has marks which are for determining the rotation index. These marks are spaced at 90 degree increments. Use the rotation index marks as a guide for tightening the oil filter.

  9. Start the engine. Check for leaks at the filters.

  10. Check the hydraulic oil level. Add oil to the hydraulic oil reservoir if oil is needed.
