An accumulation of any flammable substance may ignite and cause personal injury. Wipe away any spilled oil or other flammable substance before cutting with an air carbon arc torch or similar tool. |
NOTICE |
---|
The following welding procedures given are with low hydrogen AWS Specification E7018 Electrodes. All electrodes must be completely dry. The surfaces must be clean. Remove all foreign materials before welding. Do not weld in areas where there is a strong movement of air or in temperatures of less than 16°C (60°F). |
Weights (approximate)
NOTICE |
---|
When a hoist is used to lift any part or assembly, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly. Approximate weights of the components and assemblies are shown in the following chart. |
Necessary Parts
Removal of Existing Hinge and Bowl Assembly
NOTE: Prior to disassembly, close the bucket assembly. Lower all implements to the floor and return the implement controls to the HOLD position.
1. Make four bars (1) from a 40 mm × 40 mm (1.6" × 1.6") mild steel bar. Each bar is 60 mm (2.4") long.
2. Make four bars (2) from a 30 mm × 30 mm (1.2" × 1.2") mild steel bar. Each bar is 130 mm (5.1") long.

Welding Dimensions.
3. Weld bar (1) in position with an 8 mm (.3") fillet weld. There are two bars per side. Weld only sides A and B. Repeat this procedure for all four bars.
NOTE: To improve the location of the reworked bowl assembly, snug the bars against the rear edge of the bowl assembly. These bars are used to locate the reworked bowl assembly.
Position bar (2) to lay flat on the end of bar (1) prior to welding.
4. Weld bar (2) in position with an 8 mm (.3") fillet weld. There are two bars per side. Weld only from location C to D.
The 20 mm (.8") dimension applies to top and bottom of bar (2). Repeat this procedure for all four bars.
5. Remove the 9V1097 Pin Assembly from the rod end of the hydraulic cylinders. Repeat for the opposite side. Disconnect the cylinders from the upper bowl assembly.
6. Remove the 8V7419 Pin Assembly from the bowl assembly, this pin assembly holds the bowl assembly & bulldozer assembly together.
7. Remove the bowl assembly from the bulldozer assembly, support the ends to prevent the bowl assembly from falling.

8. Remove the top portion of the bowl assembly, both sides.
Chamfers on the Bowl Assembly.
9. Make a 45° × 8 mm (.3") chamfer on both sides of the bowl assembly.

10. Make a modification to both end plates on the bulldozer assembly. This will provide the necessary clearance for the new hinge when the bowl assembly is fully opened.
Installation of Replacement Hinge and Bowl Assembly
943 - Fabricated Plate for the Bowl Assembly.
953 - Fabricated Plate for the Bowl Assembly.
1. Make two fabricated plates from 20 mm (.8") thick structural steel with a Minimum Yield Strength of 620 MPa (89,900 psi).
2. Make a 50.89 ± .04 mm (2.004" ± .0015") Ø hole at location (A).
3. Drill a 16.75 mm (.659") Ø hole and tap with a 3/4-10-2B Thread at location (B).
Chamfers on the Fabricated Plates.
4. Make a 45° × 8 mm (.3") chamfer, both sides, on the lower end of the fabricated plates.
1. 9C0729 Hinge. 2. 8V7419 Pin Assembly.
5. Place 9C0729 Hinge (3) in position on the fabricated plate. Use 8V7419 Pin Assembly (4) to locate the fabricated plate and the hinge. Remove the pin assembly after welding.
Welding Details for 9C0729 Hinge.
6. Weld the hinge to the inside of the fabricated plate with a 10 mm (.4") fillet weld. There should be 1.5 mm (.06") weld penetration. Weld only from locations (E) to (F).
7. Weld the hinge on the outside of the fabricated plate with a 20 mm (.8") J-Groove weld. Weld only from locations (D) to (C).
943 - Welded Plate and Hinge Assembly on the Bulldozer Assembly.
953 - Welded Plate and Hinge Assembly on the Bulldozer Assembly.
8. Place the lower portion of the bowl assembly in position on the bucket assembly. Use bars (1) and (2) to position the bowl assembly on the bulldozer assembly.
9. Place the welded plate and hinge assembly in position on the bowl assembly. Install the 8V7419 Pin Assembly (4) in the welded plate and hinge assembly to locate it on the bulldozer assembly.
NOTE: Make sure the pin assembly passes through both the hinge holes and the holes in the rear of the bulldozer assembly.
10. Position the welded plate and hinge assembly so there is equal distance between the edges. There is a 2 mm (.1") minimum distance (gap) required.
Weld the bowl assembly and the welded plate and hinge assembly together with a 8 mm (.3") V groove weld. There should be 2 mm (.1") penetration. The surface of the V groove weld should be convex.
NOTE: No craters are allowed at the ends of the welds.
11. Repeat this procedure for the opposite end of the bowl assembly.
12. Weld the inside edges (both ends) using the same procedure.
943 - Dimensions for welding 7V3997 Bars on Bowl Assembly.
953 - Dimensions for welding 7V3997 Bars on Bowl Assembly.
13. Position 7V3997 Bars (5) as shown. Weld three sides marked (G) with a 6 mm (.24") square groove weld. There should be 1.5 mm (.06") penetration.
14. Repeat this procedure for bars (5) on the opposite end of the bowl assembly.
Position for Welding 4K0149 Plug.
15. Weld 4K0149 Plug (6) in position on the 9C0729 Hinge with a 1.5 mm (.06") square groove weld. The weld should be 15 mm (.6") long. Place the welds 180° apart.
NOTE: Plug (6) is installed to prevent dirt, debris and water from entering the inside of the hinges. Some earlier hinges do not have this hole. If you have one of these hinges, plugs are not necessary.
16. Repeat this procedure for plugs (6) on the opposite end.
17. Tighten the bolt in 8V7419 Pin Assembly (4), on both ends.
18. Install the 9V1025 Pin Assembly through the rod end of the hydraulic cylinders and the new hinges.
19. Remove bars (1 & 2) that were used for locating the bowl assembly on the bulldozer assembly.
20. Test the hydraulics for proper operation.
