Description of Change: A new spark plug has been developed for use in all applications of these engines that use bio-gas fuels. These applications include engines that operate on landfill gas and digester gas. The new spark plug includes the improvements to the components that follow: the internal components, the body and the materials for the electrodes. With the proper maintenance, the new spark plug is expected to provide improved service life and improved reliability.
Adaptable To: In applications that use bio-gas fuels, the new 224-9876 Spark Plug can be used as a direct replacement for the current spark plug. This new spark plug can be used with any combination of the components that follow: spark plug extenders, transformers and ignition systems. Continue to follow the maintenance intervals that are currently published for spark plugs.
Note: The new 224-9876 Spark Plug comes from the factory with a spark plug gasket that is designed to last for the life of the spark plug. This gasket is designed to remain installed on the body of the spark plug. It is not necessary to replace the original gasket during normal maintenance. If the original spark plug gasket becomes damaged, cut through the gasket in order to remove the gasket from the spark plug.
Note: A 9Y-6792 Spark Plug Gasket can be used in place of a damaged original gasket. If a 9Y-6792 Spark Plug Gasket is used on a 224-9876 Spark Plug, the 9Y-6792 Spark Plug Gasket should be replaced during normal maintenance.
Note: In order to maximize the life of the spark plug, proper tuning of the engine and proper maintenance are critical. Ensure that ignition system components are in good working order. Ensure that the exhaust emissions and the applied load are to specifications. Ensure that the recommended service intervals are followed.
Note: The new 224-9876 Spark Plug should be cleaned after every 1000 hours of operation. After the spark plug is cleaned, set the spark plug gap to 0.28 ± 0.05 mm (0.011 ± 0.002 inch).
