Usage:
Software for the 994D Wheel Loaders is located in the Electronic Control Modules (ECM). To upgrade or change the current software, a technique known as FLASH software programming is used. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET) and the Vital Information Management Systems PC (VIMS-PC) have the ability to FLASH download (reprogram) an ECM without having to physically remove the ECM from the machine.
FLASH downloading is accomplished by connecting CAT ET or VIMS-PC to the desired ECM through the Communication Adapter Tool and transferring data from a disk drive on the PC into the ECM. For detailed instructions on FLASH downloading, refer to the Help menu in the CAT ET or VIMS-PC software under the "ECM Replacement" menu selection.
NOTE: CAT ET can only FLASH software for the power train, and engine ECMs. VIMS-PC is only used to FLASH VIMS software.
If it is necessary to obtain new software for the 994D Wheel Loader, the new software may be ordered through the Caterpillar parts system. Refer to the System Electronics Control Group in SEBP2993, Parts Book, 994D Wheel Loaders, for the appropriate part numbers for the electronic systems software.
