The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects the following condition:
- The presence of coolant is not detected by the coolant level sensor for ten seconds.
System Response:
The engine will shut down if the "Engine Monitoring Mode" is programmed to "Shut Down".
- The engine is shutdown.
Test Step 1. Check the Coolant Level
- Stop the engine.
Pressurized System: Hot coolant can cause serious burns. To open the cooling system filler cap, stop the engine and wait until the cooling system components are cool. Loosen the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure. |
- After allowing the engine to cool, check the coolant level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant Level - Check".
Note: The coolant level sensor should be completely immersed in coolant.
Expected Result:
The coolant is at the proper level.
Results:
- OK - The coolant level sensor is completely immersed in the coolant.
Repair: There may be a problem with the coolant level sensor. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Coolant Level Sensor Circuit - Test".
STOP
- Not OK - The coolant level is low.
Repair: Add coolant to the proper level. Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.
