Start By:

  1. Remove the bucket.

  1. Start the engine. Park machine on a hard, level surface.

  2. Remove drain plugs (3) to drain oil from both final drive units. Remove bolts (1) to remove cover (2). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive and Travel Motor - Disassemble" for more information.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Without the sun gear in place, the brakes are ineffective. Personal injury or death could result. Provide other means to hold or stop the machine.


  3. Remove sun gear (4). Apply Tooling (E) onto cover (2). Install cover (2) and bolts (1). Refill with oil for towing. Repeat procedure for the opposite final drive.

  4. Position stick (6) on Tooling (A), as shown. Ensure the eye Dimension (X) of pin hole from stick (6) is level with the bottom of frame (5) to enable level lifting.

  5. Disconnect grease hose assembly (7). Remove bolts (8) and plate (9). Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (10). The weight of boom cylinder (10) is approximately 147 kg (324 lb). Slide pin (11) toward the boom to reposition boom cylinder (10).

  6. Disconnect hose assemblies (12). Attach a suitable lifting device to both ends of boom cylinder (10). The weight of boom cylinder (10) is approximately 147 kg (324 lb). Lower boom cylinder (10) to top of the blade.

  7. Remove pin assembly (13). Remove boom cylinder (10).

  8. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B). The weight of Tooling (B) is approximately 95 kg (210 lb). Position Tooling (B) as shown. Install pin assembly (13). Position Tooling (B) on the boom pin. Install plate (9) and bolts (8).

  9. Remove cover (14).

  10. Disconnect and relocate hose assemblies (15).

  11. Disconnect hose assemblies (16). Disconnect hose and fitting assemblies (17). Remove clamp (18). Remove retainer (19). Remove boot (20).

  12. Remove hose assemblies (21) and pin (22).

  13. Remove bottom guard (23).

    For Tooling (F).

  14. Position Tooling (F) and Tooling (C) as shown in illustration 16.

  15. Position Tooling (F1) and Tooling (C) as shown in illustration 17. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1303 , "Lift Group (Stand -25 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (F1).

  16. The weight of upper frame (5) is approximately 7711 kg (17000 lb).

  17. Disconnect bolts (24) and (25).

    Note: Mark swing gear for installation.

  18. Install Tooling (D).

  19. Use Tooling (A), and Tooling (F) or Tooling (F1) to raise upper frame (5) in increments of 12.70 mm (0.500 inch) from front to back to keep the upper frame level. Raise the machine until the machine clears the tooling and the swing gear (26).

  20. Use suitable towing device to pull the undercarriage away from the upper frame assembly. The weight of the undercarriage is approximately 3630 kg (8000 lb).
