Fuel Injection Pump - Install
Installation Procedure

Note: Make sure that the fuel racks are in the zero position before the fuel injection pumps are installed.
- Install plunger (10), gear segment (11), and washer (5) in position on barrel. Install spring (9) in position on barrel (4). Put check valve assembly (7), spring (3), and collar (8) in position in bonnet (6). Connect bonnet (6) and barrel (4) together with ring (2). Keep seal (1) with the bonnet for use during installation.

- Put spacer (13) in position in the bore in the pump housing. Make sure that the correct spacer is with each pump.

- Align the space in gear segment (11) with the groove in barrel (4) .
- Put the injection pump straight down into the bore in the pump housing. The space in gear segment (11) must align with pin (12). The groove in barrel (4) must align with dowel (14). Use Tool (C) in order to install the pump.
- Install seal (1) and bushing (16) in the bore in the pump housing. Install Tool (D) with bushing (16) if the pump is in the correct position. Compress the spring on the fuel injection pump with Tool (D) and start the threads of the bushing into the pump housing. Tighten the bushing to a torque of 245 ± 15 N·m (181 ± 11 lb ft).

- Check the correct installation of the fuel injection pumps with the engine stopped. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting Manual.
- Remove Tool (A) and install the plugs in the fuel injection pump housing.

The engine may overspeed due to incorrect assembly or adjustment. Engine overspeed could result in personal injury, loss of life and/or property damage. Be prepared to stop the engine by activating the engine shutdown system or closing the air inlet lines. |
