SPS342 Skid Mounted Pumper Caterpillar

The engine speed/timing sensor is mounted in the flywheel housing. A second engine speed/timing sensor functions as a backup. The primary engine speed/timing sensor is below the secondary engine speed/timing sensor.

Inspection

Typical example

1. Remove the engine speed/timing sensor from the flywheel housing.

2. Inspect the condition of the end of the engine speed/timing sensor. Look for signs of wear. Also, look for any contaminants.

3. Inspect the engine speed sensor connector for damage and for corrosion. Inspect the wire for any damage and for any abrasions.

Clean

1. Clean any metal shavings from the face of the magnet. Also, clean any other debris from the face of the magnet.

2. Reinstall the engine speed/timing sensor, and adjust the engine speed/timing sensor. See the Service Manual, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor" for further information.
