Service Magazine SEPD1264, 08 April 2011, "A New Oil Pan Gasket Is Available for Certain C15 and C18 Tier 3 Machine Engines". Disregard the previous article. This article has been updated to provide information relevant to certain machines.

A new oil pan gasket is available for certain C15 and C18 Tier 3 Machine Engines. The new gasket is composed of four pieces with interlocking joints. Also, the new gasket incorporates a rubber bead around the outside of the gasket to help ensure that no oil leakage will occur.

The change is adaptable back to the first production of the engine. The 353-5065 Oil Pan Gasket can replace the current oil pan gasket.

Procedure for the Installation of the New Oil Pan Gasket

Note: Some Machines that are listed above may not have the plate located between the oil pan and the engine block. In these instances, only one replacement oil pan gasket will be used. The installation procedure of the gasket remains the same and the Steps involving the plate are not used.

Required Parts
Qty     Part Number     Part Description
1     141-5831     Silicone Sealant
1     1Y-3904     Adhesive
6     1A-2029     Bolts
6     5M-2894     Hard Washers
1 or 2 (1)     353-5065     Oil Pan Gasket
( 1 ) Some Machines that are listed above may not have the plate located between the oil pan and the engine block. In these instances, only one replacement oil pan gasket will be used.

  1. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.

  1. Remove the bolts with washers that secure the engine oil pan to the engine block.

  1. Remove the engine oil pan.

  1. Remove the suction tube, bracket, and discharge tube.

  1. Remove the plate with both of the gaskets that are located on both sides of the plate.

  1. Clean the sealing surface of the oil pan, plate, and engine block thoroughly.

    (A) Location of T-joints

  1. Apply a 3 mm (0.11811 inch) to 5 mm (0.19685 inch) bead of 141-5831 Silicone Sealant at the T-joints of the engine block. Refer to Illustration 4 for the proper location of the sealant.

Note: All of the joints must be assembled within 10 minutes of sealant application. After 10 minutes the sealant will begin to harden, and the performance of the sealant is compromised.
