Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Ensure that the work tool is resting on a hard, level surface. Shut the engine off on the host machine. Relieve the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to the service manual for the host machine for the proper procedure. Close the ball valves on the stick of the host machine.
- Put identification marks on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug all hoses in order to help prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid system.
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
- Disconnect the grapple from the machine.
Note: The following procedure can be performed with the grapple in an upright position. The following procedure can be performed with the grapple in a horizontal position. Make sure that the grapple is properly supported with blocking.

Typical example |
- Remove bolts (4) and remove the cover plates (5) from each side of the plate assembly.

- Disconnect the four hydraulic lines (7) that connect the hydraulic cylinders (6) to the rotating manifold (8) .

- Remove the 20 bolts (3) from the underside of the bearing assembly.
- Lift the hydraulic rotator off the plate assembly. The weight of the hydraulic rotator is approximately 245 kg (540 lb).
- Place the hydraulic rotator on a level surface.
Note: Do not lower the hydraulic rotator onto the rotating manifold. The hydraulic rotator must be blocked or placed on the rotator's side in order to avoid damage to the rotating manifold.
