5230B Excavator Machine Electronic Control System Caterpillar

Swing Brake Function

Usage:

5230B 4HZ
The swing brake holds the machine in a fixed position. This prevents the operator from swinging the body of the machine while the machine is idling and the ladder or the service console are down.

The status of the swing brake is based on the conditions that are listed below:

  • The ladder's position

  • The service console's position

  • Operator request for swing

  • Operator request for implement

  • Operator request for bucket dump

  • Operator's request for travel

Whenever the ladder or the service console are down at powerup, the swing brake will be ON immediately. After the ladder or the service console are raised, the swing brake will remain on until the operator requests one of the above operations. If any of the above items are requested, the swing brake will be turned OFF. Once the request for one of the above operations is completed, the swing brake will remain off for 8 seconds.

During a swing operation, the swing brake will not be turned on if the ladder falls to the down position.

The swing brake remains ON if the operator requests one of the operations that are listed above, when the status of a ladder or the service console changes from the down position to the up position. The brake remains ON until the operator stops the request for 0.5 seconds.
