The self test verifies that the main display module and the Gauge Cluster Modules are operating properly. The main display module performs an automatic self test when the "ECS" switch is turned from the OFF/RESET position to any of the following positions:
- AUTO position
- MAN/START position
- COOLDOWN/STOP position
Note: When the "ECS" switch is in the AUTO position, the main display module receives power only when the "REMOTE START/STOP" switch is in the START/RUN position or the COOLDOWN/STOP position.
The internal circuits and the outputs (displays, alert indicators, and action alarm) are automatically checked. The operator must observe the outputs in order to determine whether the modules and outputs are operating properly. The Alert Indicators and the readout are tested for approximately one second.

Gauge Cluster Module I and Gauge Cluster Module II are tested for approximately three seconds.

Gauge Cluster Modules |
- Gauge Cluster Module I and Gauge Cluster Module II jump to half scale. The needles then return to zero. After the needles return to zero, the needles sweep to full scale. Finally, the needles return to showing the current conditions.
- The Action Alarm sounds once.
- The main display module goes into the Normal Mode (Mode 1) of operation.
Note: If a module does not properly perform the Self Test, see Testing And Adjusting, "Module - Replace".
