Left Rear Camshaft Housing

Usage:

Remove Left Rear Camshaft Housing

preparatory steps:

a) remove valve covers

b) remove left air cleaner housing

1. Rotate the crankshaft to top center compression stroke No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.

2. On Marine engines only, drain engine coolant. Remove water cooled exhaust manifold rear water line.

3. Disconnect outer fuel injection lines and glow plug wire from camshaft housing.

4. Loosen collar retaining clamps (1). Remove collar retaining bolts (2), lock and retainer. Slide collars away from housing. Remove glow plug wiring harness (3).

5. Remove inner fuel injection lines (4). Install plugs or caps on exposed fuel lines and fittings.

6. Remove oil line (5).

7. Adjust all valve lash adjustment screws for maximum valve clearance.

8. Remove camshaft housing-to-cylinder head mounting bolts.

9. Install two 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolts in camshaft housing. Attach a hoist, and remove the camshaft housing-weight 120 lbs. (54 kg).

Install Left Rear Camshaft Housing

1. Install both inlet and exhaust camshaft timing pins.

2. Be sure valve lash adjustment screws have maximum valve clearance.

3. Check to be sure that crankshaft is at TC Compression position No. 1 piston. The crankshaft will be in this position if:

a. The timing pin can be inserted into slot in fuel injection pump camshaft as outlined in FUEL INJECTION PUMP CAMSHAFT TIMING in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.
b. The timing pin in the left front inlet camshaft can be installed and the phasing gear timing marks are aligned.
c. The timing pins can be installed in the right side camshafts.

NOTICE

If above procedure relating to valve lash, camshaft timing marks, timing pins, and crankshaft position is not followed, damage to the engine can result.

4. Attach a hoist, and position camshaft housing on engine. Install the camshaft housing retaining bolts.

5. Position collars (1) to connect camshafts. Install retainer, lock and bolts. Tighten collar retaining clamps.

6. Install turbocharger to camshaft housing oil line.

7. Remove plugs or caps and install inner fuel injection lines (2). Connect outer fuel injection lines to camshaft housing. Tighten all fuel line retaining nuts to 30 ± 5 lb. ft. (4,1 ± 0,7 mkg). Install glow plug wiring harness.

8. Remove all timing pins from their timing slots. Install timing pins in their respective storage positions.

9. On Marine engines only, install water cooled exhaust manifold rear water line. Install engine coolant.

concluding steps:

a) adjust valve clearance

b) install valve covers

c) install left air cleaner housing
